Tennis players will have 10-minute breaks due to heat: new rules from 2026.
New rules for tennis players
According to The Sun: Tennis players will receive 10-minute breaks to cool down in extreme heat conditions starting from the 2026 season. This decision was made due to concerns about player safety on the courts that arose during the Shanghai Masters tournament.
World number 15, Holger Rune, raised concerns about safety during matches, as he himself experienced difficulties in 34°C temperatures at the tournament in October.
Rune also required medical assistance during his match.
The introduction of cooling breaks will be an important step in ensuring the comfort and safety of tennis players, especially in hot weather conditions. These changes will help protect athletes and reduce the risks associated with overheating, which will undoubtedly have a positive impact on competitions in the future.
