The reckoning for the 39-year-old coach came after an undeserved 1-1 draw with 'Falkirk'.
Martin left the club having won just one of seven league matches, with five victories from 17 games in all competitions.
Gerrard back on the horizon
Since the dismissal, fans' eyes quickly turned to potential successors.
Liverpool and England legend, Gerrard, 45, has become one of the favorites to return to the helm of 'Rangers'.
He has been out of work since leaving Al-Ettifaq earlier this year, and it has also been nearly four years since his departure from 'Ibrox' to work at 'Aston Villa'.
Gerrard believes he has 'unfinished business' in management.
“I was not ready because I did not have a team around me. And the timing was not right,”
— he noted in an interview.
Gerrard added that 'Rangers' as a club suited him 'very well', and he is eager to return to coaching a team that competes for titles.
Recently, the BBC reported that 'Rangers' are open to the possibility of inviting Gerrard back as manager.
At the same time, the club is waiting to see if Gerrard himself will show interest in a return.
TalkSPORT journalist Ben Jacobs has said that the club’s management is evaluating the financial feasibility of a potential return for Gerrard.
Gerrard is the favorite among bookmakers for the managerial position at 'Rangers'.
The former manager of 'Burnley' and 'Everton', Sean Dyche, was initially also among the favorites, but it is reported that he is not a candidate for the position.
The head of 'Rangers', Andrew Cavanagh, and vice-chairman Parag Marathe published an open letter to fans after Martin's dismissal, acknowledging that they 'made a mistake' in choosing the former Scotland international, assuring that they are 'deeply involved' in the search for a new manager.
