Macron accuses the US of undermining the world order: what is happening

According to ТСН: French President Emmanuel Macron criticized Donald Trump's administration for abandoning the rules-based international order. He made this statement during his annual address on foreign policy.

"The United States is a developed state that is gradually turning away from some of its allies and moving away from the international rules it once promoted,"

In his speech, Macron described the global political situation in which powerful states are trying to divide the world into spheres of influence. According to him, the US seeks to dominate the Western Hemisphere according to the so-called Monroe Doctrine, but he praised Washington's efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

"We are developing in a world of great powers, where there is a real temptation to redraw the world. The events of recent months, and sometimes even recent days, only confirm this assessment,"

Macron also faced criticism for his soft response to the ousting of Maduro. In social media, he noted that Venezuela "can only rejoice" at this, without indicating the compliance of such actions with international law. He accused the US of violating trade rules and general security.

"Every day people ask themselves whether there will be an invasion of Greenland or whether Canada will face the threat of becoming the 51st state of the US,"

The situation in Caracas and threats regarding Greenland are highlighted as important subjects for Paris. France is actively shaping a European response to these challenges, including Trump's threats regarding Denmark.

Macron emphasized that Europe must respond to what he calls "new colonialism," and strengthen its "strategic autonomy." He has repeatedly called for Europe to reduce dependence on the US and China, but now these calls may sound less convincing due to his weakened positions at home.

Macron enters the last year of his presidency with low approval ratings and a dissolved parliament. Farmers' protests in Paris against a possible trade agreement with countries of the Mercosur bloc may further undermine his positions. The agreement is unpopular in France, but Paris is unlikely to be able to block it ahead of a crucial vote in the EU.

In his speech, Macron also emphasized the need to protect Europe's borders by signing trade agreements with enhanced protective provisions.

"When you impose rules on your producers and then open markets to those who do not comply with these rules, you will not gain broad support from your own producers,"
"Common sense suggests that they should be listened to,"

These statements by Macron highlight the tension in international relations and the importance of strengthening Europe's positions on the global stage. In the context of current geopolitical challenges, such as the war in Ukraine and trade disputes, France is trying to take a more active role, demonstrating readiness to protect its interests and cooperate with partners. Along with the economic and political challenges faced by Macron, his foreign policy will have a significant impact on Europe's future on a global scale.
