Manchester United spent £50 million on training ground: what they forgot to do.
According to The Sun: Manchester United has invested £50 million in updating its training complex, but did not include laundry facilities in the new building.
The modern complex in Carrington opened in August, aimed at modernizing the club's training processes.
GettyDespite the significant investment, the club continues to use external laundry services. This means that football kits are cleaned off-site, rather than on-site as it was done before.
This decision has caused outrage among fans, especially considering the scale of the upgrade.
Laundry facilities have long been part of the club's history. In 1999, former club employee Albert Morgan recalled how he returned the Treble trophies to the laundry at the old training ground Cliff after the parade.
The old laundry was once the center of daily life at the club. However, over time, United began to use external services instead of internal ones, and even with the new multimillion facility, this decision remained unchanged.
The club's unexpected decision
Several staff members were surprised that the club did not include a laundry in the new complex, given the available space and budget.
Currently, there is no information suggesting that the current system is causing any problems.
The club has not yet commented on the laundry situation.
In 2021, Manchester United transferred kit washing services to the global hygiene company Ecolab.

Previously, the club stated:
“We care deeply about our kit. How it is prepared is important for the players. It needs to be soft, comfortable, and irritation-free. This means we go to additional lengths to ensure a high standard of our laundry.”
Renovations in Carrington are still ongoing. Young talents at the club in the academy (U21 and U18) will be in temporary cabins in the players' parking lot at the southern Manchester HQ for several months.
The absence of a laundry in the new training complex raises concerns among fans, as it will undoubtedly affect the team's daily life. Despite the outcry, the club continues to adhere to its decisions to optimize costs and focus on training. Therefore, it is important to follow further news and comments from the club's management regarding this situation.
