Steve Bruce has been dismissed from his position as Blackpool manager: what was the reason.
Steve Bruce has been dismissed from his position as Blackpool manager
According to The Sun: Legend of Manchester United Steve Bruce has been dismissed from his position as head coach of Blackpool.
The reason for this was disappointment following a 0:2 home defeat to AFC Wimbledon, a newcomer to the league.
GettyBruce leaves Blackpool, which is in second to last place in League One.
In a statement, the club noted: “Blackpool Football Club announces the resignation of head coach Steve Bruce, his assistant Steve Agnew, and first team coach Steven Clemence. The club thanks them for their efforts and wishes them all the best in the future.”
“Stephen Dobbie and Steve Banks will temporarily take charge of the first team until a new management is appointed.”
Blackpool has only won two of eleven matches in League One and is one point ahead of Peterborough.
Many fans believed that the game with AFC Wimbledon would be decisive – and indeed it proved to be so.
The two-goal defeat from Danilo Orsi was fatal for the 64-year-old Newcastle coach.
Bruce has managed over a thousand matches in his coaching career, taking over from Neil Critchley at Bloomfield Road in September 2024.
Tough start to the season
Fans of the Tangerines had hoped for promotion at the beginning of the season, after finishing ninth the previous season.
But a poor start to the season led to the end of the former Newcastle manager's career on the shore.
Commenting on the defeat for BBC Radio Lancashire, Bruce noted:
“I can try to look for any excuses, but that is not in my nature.”
“Today we were far from where we need to be, and for that, I must take responsibility.”
Steve Bruce's dismissal reflects the dynamics of modern football, where results are crucial, and a manager's dismissal may be a necessary step for the club. Now Blackpool finds itself in a situation that requires urgent response and new management to change the course of the season and lift the team out of the relegation zone.
In the coming weeks, fans and experts are waiting for the announcement of a new manager who will implement a new strategy to achieve success in League One.
