Criticism of Luis's performance

According to The Sun: Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney criticized Liverpool's transfer policy, stating that newcomer Florian Wirtz is 'damaging' Arne Slot's team.

The German attacking midfielder joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for £116 million this summer.

Despite the significant price tag, Wirtz has yet to score or assist for Liverpool.

This has led to him receiving the derogatory title '007' from opponents – given to rookies who haven’t scored or assisted in their first seven matches.

Wirtz has often come off the bench, missing the derby against Everton.

He returned to the lineup for the match against Crystal Palace but failed to convert his chance and was substituted when the 'Eagles' clinched victory at the end of the game.

Rooney's criticism

Rooney believes Wirtz's presence has actually complicated matters at Liverpool. According to him, the Bundesliga champion 'damages' the team's balance, even though Liverpool has also spent £209 million on central forwards Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.

However, Rooney, who played for Liverpool's rivals - Manchester United and Everton, believes that Wirtz can prove himself if he can shake off the pressure associated with the hefty price tag.

Rooney noted: 'It's not been easy for him, that's for sure. He's searching for the strength within himself to turn this situation around.'

'I think he's played okay, but when Liverpool signs so many new players competing for places, it complicates things.'

'I don’t see where he fits into the team. It’s a lot of money, and I believe Wirtz does genuinely damage Liverpool’s balance.'

'But he’s a top player, and I’m confident he will improve. He’s had a slow start, and that cannot be denied.'

'I’ve seen players come to this league, and it takes time. I don’t think it’s about the price tag or his abilities.'

'I don’t understand where he can find his place in Liverpool’s system. Is he a third midfielder? For me, no. He’s more of an attacking player. So, if I had to choose between him and Dominik Szoboszlai, I would prefer Szoboszlai.'

Liverpool is going through a tough phase as they try to adapt new signings into the team's play. While Wirtz has great potential, his integration into the club has become a subject of a broader discussion about balance and Liverpool's strategy. Now it is crucial to watch how the situation develops in the upcoming matches, and whether Wirtz can prove his worth on the pitch.
