Manchester United prepares for mass player exodus: who will leave the club

According to The Sun: Manchester United veteran Tom Heaton is preparing for a new phase of his life after retiring, taking coaching courses.

39-year-old Heaton started his career at Old Trafford, but left the club in 2010, returning as a backup goalkeeper in 2021.

After returning to the club, Heaton became the third choice goalkeeper, and his contract will end at the end of the current season when he turns 40.

His contract is not set to be renewed, so he is already actively working on plans for the future.

Heaton has completed coaching courses, considering new opportunities after a 20-year career.

Among possible options is a commentary role, as he is open to working on television.

In 2023, he participated in live broadcasts covering the game for BBC 5Live, where England defeated North Macedonia 7-0.

Heaton will be on the list of players who may leave the club next season.

He is expected to join players like Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, and possibly Harry Maguire.

Although Heaton initially planned to retire at the end of last season, he changed his mind and signed a new contract for another year.

At that time, United director Jason Wilcox emphasized the importance of Heaton's leadership and experience for the team.

“Tom's leadership and experience are very important for the collective, so we are glad he will be part of the team again next season.”

“Tom's mentality and excellent preparation, which allows him to always be ready for action, make him an ideal addition to our goalkeeper group.”

Head coach Ruben Amorim highly values Heaton, as he is part of his six leaders.

Among the fans, there were even ideas to make Heaton the club's new starting goalkeeper this season due to the mistakes of Andre Onana and Altay Bayındır.

However, at the moment, the starting goalkeeper position has gone to Bayındır, as Heaton remains the third choice after the new signing Senne Lammens.

Heaton has played only three times for Manchester United, joining the club at 11 years old.

After several loans, in 2010 he signed a permanent deal with Cardiff City, and two years later moved to Bristol City.

Later, he moved to Burnley, where he played 200 matches, and subsequently spent a short time at Aston Villa.

Now, preparing for new challenges, Heaton leaves behind a lengthy and successful career in professional football, considering opportunities awaiting him in coaching and media.
