Manchester United aims to sign the captain of the Colombian youth national team

According to The Sun: The football club Manchester United is nearing a deal with the captain of the Colombia U-17 national team, Cristian Orozco.

Orozco, who plays as a defensive midfielder, only joined his current club Fortaleza this summer. But United quickly decided to sign a contract with the 17-year-old talent.

This young Colombian has already appeared on the field for the U-17 national team nine times this year. He is expected to move to Manchester next year, after turning 18 in July.

Earlier this year, United signed another player from South America — 18-year-old left-back Diego Leon, who also joined in the summer.

Four and a half years ago, the club aimed to sign Moises Caicedo from Independiente del Valle, but ultimately backed out due to agent interference. At that time, United deemed the price of £5.5 million too high.

Meanwhile, the Ecuadorian joined Chelsea two and a half years later for a record British fee of £115 million.

The new football director of United, Jason Wilcox, is actively looking for talents abroad after signing Malaysian midfielder Sekou Kone last year.

According to SunSport, the “Red Devils” are also monitoring their compatriot Dan Sinata, a 19-year-old left-back for Angers.

United have cut their scouting system down to ten people and have empowered recruitment director Christopher Vivell.

Previously, the club's scouting network was quite large and consisted of over 100 individuals.

Over the last 18 months, dozens of staff have left the club due to two rounds of layoffs.

The transfer of Cristian Orozco underscores Manchester United's commitment to strengthening their youth squad and attracting promising talents. This could significantly impact the team's future successes, considering the growth potential of young U-17 players in strong professional conditions. At the same time, the club's desire to actively develop its scouting system may open new avenues for signing players from all over the world.
