Experiment with green cards for referees

According to The Sun: Referees receive green cards as part of a new experiment currently being tested.

Football fans are used to yellow and red cards, which have been in use since the World Cup in 1970.

FIFA is experimenting with new cards that are being tested in various competitions.

One of these innovations is aimed at the U-20 World Cup taking place in Chile.

Fans witnessed an unusual situation during the group match between Morocco and Spain.

The coach of the Moroccan team, Mohamed Wahbi, approached the referee with a green card.

This innovation allows challenging the referee's decision and gives managers more rights regarding VAR technologies.

Wahbi wanted the referee to review his decision regarding the penalty awarded to Spain.

After reviewing the incident, the referee revoked his original decision due to simulation.

As a result, the match ended with a 2-0 victory for Morocco.

The purpose of the green card is to allow managers the opportunity to challenge the referee's decision and request video reviews, but with a limit of two challenges per match.

If the coach wants to challenge the decision, he can show the card to prompt the referee to review the incident on the monitor.

The rules remain unchanged

Referees continue to receive recommendations to check the monitor for obvious errors regarding goals, penalties, red cards, and mistaken identity, as is currently the case.

The experiment with green cards could significantly change the approach to refereeing in football. If the tests are successful, this could become the new standard in sports practice. Observers are eagerly awaiting the reaction to this decision in future games.
