The award ceremony will take place in February 2026, and in the meantime, a shortlist of 40 establishments has been presented.

The battle for the award

This competition has 14 categories, but the main focus is on the most prestigious award – “Fast Food of the Year”.

Establishments from the list will compete for the title against the current holder – Yarm Road Fish & Chips from Darlington, County Durham.

“Winning the award in 2025 was the proudest moment of our business life,” said co-owner and manager Will Burrell.
“We transformed from a busy shop into a wildly popular spot overnight – and it doesn’t look like it will slow down anytime soon!”
“We will be sad to pass on the trophy, but we can’t wait to see the incredible fish and chips that will showcase our wonderful industry and continue to develop it!”

Expert evaluation

Experts will evaluate each establishment across the country based on food quality, hygiene, environmental and operational sustainability, customer service, and industry knowledge.

The President of the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), which organizes the awards, noted: “We received a fantastic collection of applications for Fast Food of the Year – it is a badge of honor that many in the industry strive for, and we are very excited to see new names on the list.”

He also added that this will be “an unforgettable experience for the new top 40 fast foods,” which, according to him, will feature “an impressive showcase of skill, tradition, and innovation.”

The list will be narrowed down to 20 for the semifinals before the awards take place next year. The final will reduce this list to 10 before the winner is announced next February.
