Barcelona will not be able to buy Rashford: LaLiga has reduced the club's spending limit by £96 million.
Rashford's prospects in Barcelona threatened
According to The Sun: Marcus Rashford's prospects for a transfer to Barcelona may be in jeopardy due to a nearly £100 million reduction in the club's financial capabilities.
The player, who represents Manchester United on loan, is adapting well in Spain, already scoring two goals in the Champions League match against Newcastle at St. James' Park this week.
AFPBarcelona's financial difficulties
Despite successful performances, the Catalan club has encountered new financial obstacles that may hinder the signing of new players, including Rashford's transfer.
According to reports from Spain, La Liga confirmed that the club's official wage cap for the 2025/26 season fell from €463 million to €351 million - a significant drop of €112 million (£96 million).
This limit includes salaries, transfer fees, and other team-related expenses. If clubs exceed this limit, La Liga will not allow the registration of new players, regardless of their popularity.
According to information provided by Athletic, the drastic reduction is related to controversies concerning income from VIP hospitality at Camp Nou. Previously, auditors considered €100 million from the sale of future earnings from 475 VIP boxes as justifiable income. However, new auditors refused to certify this, leading to the inability to include these funds in the club's budget.
Impact on the club
This is another blow for the club, which is still playing home games at the Johann Cruyff stadium while the legendary Camp Nou is undergoing a £1.25 billion renovation.
As a result, the club has had to significantly reduce matchday revenues and financial capabilities.
One La Liga representative warned that the loss of matchday income has 'seriously restricted' the Catalans' capabilities in the transfer market.
This summer, Barcelona surprisingly executed a transfer for Rashford, 27, as part of a £30 million deal for Spanish goalkeeper Joan García.

However, insiders now indicate that the club must find new sources of income or sell players to secure a long-term deal for the English striker.
La Liga president Javier Tebas suggested that the Catalans have already exhausted their options in the summer.
“They have proven capable of signing players despite their limitations, and their on-field results remain strong,”
reports Athletic. They do not deny the new restrictions and believe that the situation will improve once Camp Nou reopens, allowing for the recovery of matchday revenues and the realization of full VIP agreements.
Rashford noted that he enjoys living in Spain and that this move positively impacts his performances.
However, due to La Liga's financial difficulties and Barcelona's ongoing high spending, the prospect of Rashford's permanent transfer seems complicated.
Until the club restores its financial streams, a long-term deal with Rashford remains an open question.

The loss of significant income caused by La Liga's restrictions and the stadium renovation affects the club's capabilities to carry out transfer agreements. Further actions by the club will depend on finding new sources of income or the willingness to sell players.Read also
