Current State of Mariupol Port

According to Espreso.tv: Petro Andriushchenko, head of the Center for Studying Occupation, has confirmed that the Mariupol port is no longer operational. The shutdown stems from damage to the electrical infrastructure—including substations—and strikes by Ukrainian defense forces on port facilities. According to Andriushchenko, the port will remain unusable for at least the next week.

'As of today, the Mariupol port is not functioning,' stated Petro Andriushchenko.

He added that 'equipment has been hit and damaged, making it impossible to use the port in the coming week.' The vessel coordination center was also struck during the hostilities, further complicating port operations.

Regional Consequences

Just yesterday, at least two ships were still docked at the port, but their operations are now in jeopardy due to the current situation. Additionally, on June 9, the bridge at Chonhar was completely destroyed, compounding logistical challenges across the region. With the Mariupol port out of commission, maritime connectivity remains in a critical state.

The halt of Mariupol port operations carries severe economic repercussions for both the region and the country as a whole. Historically, this port has been a vital hub for maritime shipping and goods exports, so its closure could trigger major supply delays and price increases. The situation is worsened by the destruction of key infrastructure, such as the Chonhar bridge, which further restricts transportation routes.
