Musk considers launching an alternative to TikTok.
American entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced that his social network X may bring back the Vine platform, which became popular for its short videos. This news comes after the ban on TikTok in the USA. Thus, Musk has the opportunity to fill the void that has emerged.
Vine was unexpectedly shut down in 2017, although by that Time it had gained a loyal audience. There is a probability that Vine's functionality will be integrated into the X social network, as Musk has expressed his intention to transform it into a universal application with various services.
It is worth noting that this is not Musk's first attempt to revive Vine. In 2022, he conducted a user poll to learn their attitude towards the restoration of this service. Reviving Vine will require significant effort, but if successful, it could replace TikTok in the USA.
A similar comparative move has already been made by Meta, which added a short video feature (Reels) to its Instagram platform, Neowin reports.
Meanwhile, TikTok is restoring its operations in the USA after newly elected President Donald Trump announced the postponement of its ban.
It should be recalled that the ban on TikTok occurred after the Supreme Court upheld the ban implemented by Congress and President Joe Biden in April. The law prohibits American companies from hosting or servicing content for the Chinese social network unless it is purchased by an American buyer or their ally.
