Mass brawl in Latvian hockey: players and coaches received disqualifications.
According to inkorr.com: During a match of the Latvian Amateur Hockey League between the teams 'Priedainē' and 'Kekava Klappers', a mass brawl broke out. According to 'Glavkom' and Latvijas Sabiedriskais medijs, the conflict arose due to rule violations, which led to a large fight.
'We play hockey, it is an emotional sport,' said 'Priedainē' player Denis Benke.
Kekava Klappers coach Matis Rybkinskis pointed out the rudeness of the opponents and believes that his team is discriminated against because of their language and origin.
'I took off my helmet and wanted to go to the penalty bench, but from their side, it was constantly heard that we are Russians, Russian occupiers, so go away. Yes, I am Russian, and no one can forbid me to speak Russian at the ice arena outside of working hours,' Benke noted.
After this incident, measures were taken in the Latvian Hockey League of Enthusiasts (EHL): two coaches and several players received disqualifications for the remainder of the season, and some hockey players were also punished with disqualifications for several matches.
This incident on the ice showed that tension in the sports environment can lead to dangerous and unsportsmanlike situations. Therefore, it is important to work on resolving conflicts peacefully to avoid similar incidents in the future.
