According to The Sun: Max Verstappen is making his debut in the Nürburgring endurance series this weekend, swapping his Red Bull for a Ferrari.

This move comes two weeks after the driver underwent training at NLS to obtain a special license that allows him to compete in GT3 at the treacherous Nürburgring, also known as the "Green Hell."

Having obtained the license, Verstappen is eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to compete for overall victory this weekend.

The four-time Formula 1 world champion will share the Ferrari 296 Emil Frey with Chris Lulham during the four-hour race on Saturday.

Back in June, Verstappen told SunSport about his attempts to compete in other motorsport events, dreaming of taking part in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.

Even outside of Formula 1 last weekend, he managed to secure a win at the challenging Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko noted in Baku that the team allowed Verstappen to compete this weekend as it does not conflict with the Formula 1 Grand Prix schedule.

Verstappen said: “This is my passion — to take part in such GT3 races, I can't wait.”

“I am passionately in love with motorsport not just in Formula 1. Every lap on the Nordschleife is a special experience.”

“The atmosphere here is incredible, and many fans of endurance racing are present.”

“My hobby is racing in categories other than Formula 1. My dream is to eventually take part in the 24-hour race at Nürburgring Nordschleife.”

“Nordschleife is the top priority track I want to compete on, as it is extremely challenging and demanding due to its vast size and narrow historical layout.”

The Nürburgring is considered one of the most dangerous tracks in motorsport, where 69 drivers have died during various competitions.

Despite updates aimed at reducing risks for drivers, 12 drivers have died since 1998.

Motorsport fans were stunned in May when an unknown driver by the name of G Hermann set an impressive record at Nürburgring Nordschleife.

It turned out to be Verstappen, testing the Ferrari 296 GT3 under a fictitious name to remain unnoticed.

The 27-year-old Dutchman chose this name to sound “super German,” but later had to abandon it as obtaining an A-category license for Nordschleife required starting under his real name.

Amid Verstappen's decision to switch to a new track, this competition at Nürburgring could mark an important milestone in his career. Participating in such a prestigious race as the 24 Hours of Nürburgring remains a cherished dream for many drivers. Verstappen has already shown that he is ready for new challenges, and given his achievements in Formula 1, it is possible that his endurance debut will be successful.
