McDonald's removes the new McFlurry from the menu: what happened and what they offer instead.
According to The Sun: McDonald's decided to remove the popular dessert from the menu just a few days after its introduction.
The new Caramel Loaded McFlurry appeared on the menu on September 10, the same day the annual Monopoly game started.
McDonaldsA McDonald's representative confirmed that the dessert was removed due to 'quality control issues'.
At the same time, the company exclusively told The Sun that it was replaced with the already known Toffee Crisp McFlurry.
The Caramel Loaded McFlurry cost £2.49 and consisted of caramel cubes, shortbread cookies in white chocolate, chocolate chips, and caramel sauce over vanilla ice cream.
McDonald's fans rated it as 'incredible' and '10 out of 10', noting the great combination of chocolate and caramel flavors.
However, some customers complained that the caramel pieces were 'hard' – one of them even broke a tooth.
“I literally just broke my tooth on the hard caramel pieces in the McFlurry, they are not even chewable,”- he wrote on Facebook. Another person added:
“Be careful, the caramel pieces in it are like rocks, you can break a tooth.”
A McDonald's representative stated:
“We are aware of the quality control issue regarding the Caramel Loaded McFlurry, and we can confirm that the product has been removed from our menu. We place great emphasis on quality control and are saddened by any instance where we do not meet our standards. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
Nevertheless, fans can order the Toffee Crisp McFlurry, which has returned to the menu several times. This dessert consists of soft vanilla ice cream with chunks of Toffee Crisp, topped with caramel sauce.
What’s new on the McDonald’s menu?
The last menu update took place on September 10, the day Monopoly started. This time, three favorite dishes returned, and two new products were introduced. Among them is the new Honeycomb Latte, and the Philly Cheese Stack and Mozzarella Dippers have also returned.
The menu is also complemented by the Chicken Big Mac.
What is McDonald's Monopoly and how to play it?
The game lasts about six weeks and gives customers the chance to win exciting prizes. This year you can win money, a vacation, free food, or the grand prize of £100,000. To participate, you need to collect stickers that are found on certain McDonald's food packaging.
The stickers symbolize subway stations or colored streets, like in the classic Monopoly game. Only certain dishes have Monopoly stickers, so it's worth paying attention to:
- Medium and large cold drinks
- Medium and large fries
- 3 and 5 chicken selects
- Philly Cheese Stack
- Chicken Big Mac
- Large salad
- Mozzarella Dippers
- Sharebox Mozzarella Dippers
- McPlant
- McSpicy
- McCrispy
- Regular and large cold McCafé drinks
- Regular McFlurry
- Chicken wraps
- Vegetable wraps
- Breakfast wraps
- Flat White
- Regular or large hot McCafé drinks
To play, you'll need the McDonald's app, which can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store or the App Store. Each sticker contains a QR code that can be scanned to see if you’ve won a prize.
This menu update and the return of popular desserts will certainly affect customer loyalty. However, regarding quality control, it is worth noting that McDonald's has taken customer feedback into account and is already taking steps to improve its offerings.
