After the victory of the Christian Democratic Union in the elections, Friedrich Merz expressed his strategy for the future of Europe during a television program. He voiced concerns about the need to strengthen Europe's independence from the USA.
Statements by US President Donald Trump indicate the indifference of American politicians to the interests of Europe.
Merz emphasized the importance of intra-European dialogue and cooperation and noted that part of European policy is being shaped without Germany's participation. He also highlighted the importance of Europe's defense capability and sees the possibility of accelerated formation of an independent European defense potential during the NATO summit.
Merz's critical remarks also referred to external interference in Germany's internal affairs.
Interference from the USA in Elon Musk's actions was compared to Russian interference in the German electoral campaign, noting the significant pressure Germany faces.
