Pokrovsk is preparing for a winter assault: General Pyvnenko spoke about Russia's plans.
According to ТСН: The situation in the Pokrovsk and Myrnograd directions remains complicated. Russian troops are using unfavorable weather conditions to breach defensive lines and are pulling in new reserves for a winter offensive.
Fog of war and 'infiltration'
According to the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, the weather is currently working against the defenders. Constant fog and low visibility complicate the work of drones, giving an advantage to enemy infantry.
'There is constantly fog there, the enemy infiltrates, it's very hard to work against them... The weather itself doesn't allow for timely detection of the enemy and effective destruction... Because, well, out of 25 destructions, 10 will be successful, 10 will be wounded.'
'I have the impression that we will fight for it [Pokrovsk — ed.] 100 percent.'
About the 'surrender' of territories and strategy
The commander emphasized the panic in the media regarding the losses of settlements, noting that the term 'strategic' is used too often.
He pointed out that a true strategic threat would be the enemy's advancement to the right bank of the Dnieper or cutting off important logistics routes. The loss of a single city is just a tactical event, albeit painful.
'We can lose territories, we understand that the enemy is more effective in human terms... There is no point in driving people, forcing them to be destroyed. We cannot win 100% in human terms. Only technologically.'
The general believes that sometimes it is better to retreat to prepared positions than to 'burn people' trying to defend ruins until the last moment just for political considerations.
Russia's winter plans: Pskov airborne troops
Regarding the enemy's intentions for winter, there is confirmation that Russian troops plan to seize Pokrovsk and Myrnograd, for which they are accumulating forces, including elite units.
'The 76th airborne division is there, Pskov airborne. We observe that they are there. They have not shown themselves. We know where they will be... Our task is to eliminate them.'
Holding Pokrovsk is important not only in the context of military actions but also during negotiations with Western partners, as control over this city can significantly affect the balance of power in the region. Recent events indicate that winter will bring new challenges, and monitoring enemy activity remains a priority for the Ukrainian military.
