Carrick's new role as commentator is the next step in his career following an unpredictable time as a manager.
He took charge of Middlesbrough in October 2022, replacing Chris Wilder.
Initial results were promising: the team reached the play-offs in the 2022-23 season.
Fans hoped that the United legend could bring the team back to the Premier League, but in subsequent seasons they failed to break into the top six.
Carrick's managerial journey ended in June 2025 due to a series of unstable results. This decision was unexpected for many, however, the management decided that changes were necessary to revive the promotion challenge.
Carrick enjoyed 12 impressive years at Manchester United, winning five Premier League titles, three League Cups, and the coveted Champions League in 2008.
Known for his calm play, precise passing, and ability to control the tempo, Carrick left a lasting legacy at the club.

Carrick received 34 caps for the England national team throughout his international career, starting from his debut in 2001.
He was a regular member of the squad for ten years, representing his country in several major tournaments, including the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.
After retiring from playing in 2018, Carrick not only participated in legends' matches but also became a coach at United, working under Jose Mourinho and later Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
His brief stint as caretaker manager after Solskjaer's dismissal in 2021 became an important part of his coaching experience, leading the team to victories over Villarreal and Arsenal before refocusing on his role under Ralf Rangnick.
As a commentator, Carrick will join a team of experienced analysts, including his former teammate Dimitar Berbatov, during Tottenham's first Champions League match.
This new role for Carrick opens up opportunities for him to share his wealth of experience with viewers, and already many fans are looking forward to his commentary during matches.
