Van Gerwen breaks two-year title drought: emotional victory in Amsterdam.
According to The Sun: Michael van Gerwen joked that he was ready to quit darts rather than wait another two years for a televised title.
The 36-year-old Dutchman showed emotion on Sunday evening as he claimed the £80,000 prize at the World Series of Darts Finals – marking his first title in six occasions – in front of his home fans in Amsterdam.

This victory marked van Gerwen's first win, having defeated two Lukes – Humphries in the quarter-finals and Littler in the final – at an event.
Thus, he ended a 24-month dry spell without titles on television after four final losses, including the defeat in the world championship final against Littler.
When asked about the long wait, van Gerwen remarked:
“This will never happen again – I think I will quit darts before that happens!”
He continued:
“Everyone knows where I came from. I haven’t had an easy time in life.”
“Playing in front of my own crowd, on home soil, gives me a lot of energy.”
Van Gerwen added:
“I beat the number 1 and number 2 in the world. At the moment when I had to step up, I did. It’s a joy to play in the upcoming games.”
He stated that
“he is still far from who he can be, but this is a nice start.”
Ranked number 3 in the world, van Gerwen, who will return to action next month at the World Grand Prix in Leicester, concluded:
“When everything is not going well, you need to look at yourself in the mirror. When everything is good, like this weekend, I can really enjoy it.”
