Van Gerwen in Danger: Legendary Dart Player May Miss Key Tournament.
Michael van Gerwen Risks Missing Players' Championship Final
According to The Sun: Michael van Gerwen has found himself in 90th place in the Players' Championship rankings, which poses a risk that he may not qualify for the final event.
The Dutchman has a tough task ahead: he needs to earn another £6,500 to secure a place in the final, which will take place in Minehead next month.
GettyVan Gerwen has only five tournaments left to try to qualify for the competition he has won seven times.
He failed to qualify for the draw of Players Championship 30, significantly reducing his chances of reaching the final.
At 36 years old, he reached the round of 16 at Players Championship 29 in Leicester, where he lost to Ross Smith 0-6.
Van Gerwen needs to climb into the top 64 in the Players Championship rankings to reach the final in Minehead, where the winner will receive £600,000. Currently, he is ranked 90th.
He has already amassed £14.5 million in prize money, but to qualify, it is likely he needs to exceed £21 million.
His next opportunity will be at Players Championship 31 and 32 in Wigan at the end of the month.

At the time of the incident, he was enjoying a night off from competitions, later stating that the situation was “less dramatic than people thought.”
“After a nice evening, we wanted to grab a bite, and unfortunately, I found myself in a situation to avoid.”X
“A man approached me from the kitchen side, not the other way, after a verbal exchange. People are making more of this than it actually is, which is, of course, unfortunate.”
Van Gerwen won the World Series of Darts Finals last month but withdrew from the Swiss Darts Trophy to focus on his Players Championship ranking.
His close friend and former dart player Vincent van der Voort revealed the strategy after the withdrawal in Basel, noting that he needs to show a “reliable” game.
“This is where the focus should be now. In these five tournaments he must play, he needs to make up £10,000.”
Van Gerwen critically assessed his performance last month at the Hungarian Darts Trophy, despite winning 6-2 against Matthew Dennant in the first game.
“When you play poorly, you have to face the truth. When things don’t go well, you must always be honest, and I am an honest person.”
“Especially when you want to play well but can’t – it complicates things.”
“This was not a good game. Simply put, I believe this audience deserves more.”
Michael van Gerwen faces serious challenges in his quest to qualify for the Players' Championship, noting that this time the competition will be a significant test of his professionalism and ability to overcome difficulties. At the same time, the nightclub incident may affect his image, but he is trying to stay calm and focus on the upcoming competitions. Whether he can recover and showcase his best abilities – only time will tell.
