Tax exemption for pensioners
According to The Sun: One million pensioners will not have to pay income tax if their income comes solely from the state pension. This was reported by Minister of Labor and Pensions Rachel Reeves. It was previously planned that pensioners would start paying taxes from 2027, when the Chancellor decided to freeze tax thresholds for another three years.
It is expected that the state pension will exceed the personal tax allowance of £12,570.
“One million pensioners will not be obliged to pay income tax if they receive only the state pension,” said Rachel Reeves.
These changes are aimed at alleviating the financial burden for elderly people who rely solely on state assistance. In the face of rising living costs and increasing prices for essential goods, this decision could provide significant support for pensioners and their families.
