Youth Emigration Abroad: Comments from the Minister of Sports of Ukraine

According to inkorr.com: Matviy Bidny, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, believes that there is currently no critical emigration of Ukrainian youth abroad, despite recent changes in the opportunities for individuals aged 18-22 to leave the country. He noted that the number of athletes who did not return from competitions is comparable to the number of those killed on the front, stressing that due to the war, the latter number is higher.

According to the minister, data from the State Border Guard Service do not indicate a significant increase in departures, except for seasonal trends related to the start of the academic and sports seasons. The decision to allow youth to leave is aimed at encouraging their return, as opportunities for career growth in Ukraine are significantly broader than abroad.

“From the first days of the great war, we have been working with these figures, clarifying them. In three and a half years, only about 500 athletes and coaches have gone abroad. Despite the fact that there were tens of thousands of departures and returns. There were also those who stayed for a while and then returned,” he emphasized.

Call to the Sports Community

Matviy Bidny also called for not only assessing youth emigration but also comparing it with other losses in the sports sector, emphasizing the importance of opportunities for self-realization in Ukraine. He highlighted that athletes such as Oleksandr Usyk, Olha Kharlan, and Elina Svitolina are actively fighting on the international media front, highlighting Russia's crimes.

In the field of sports, the number of individuals who received reservations is very small compared to other sectors. Members of national teams and leading sports clubs are entitled to reservations. The minister called for considering all aspects together, comparing data on youth emigration with other losses and achievements.

Matviy Bidny noted that youth emigration abroad is not critical following the recent changes in the rules for leaving individuals aged 18-22. He emphasized that the decision to allow youth to leave the country opens up new opportunities for development, but it is important to encourage their return, given the prospects for self-realization in Ukraine.

The situation regarding the emigration of youth remains a relevant topic, especially in the context of the war and economic conditions in Ukraine. The minister emphasizes the necessity of creating conditions that would allow young Ukrainians to see their future at home, as this will help retain the country's talents and resources. The return of youth who have gained experience abroad could be an important step in the restoration and development of Ukraine after the end of the war.
