The German Foreign Minister calls on Putin to negotiate with Zelensky German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul demands that Putin conduct bilateral talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as soon as possible. This was stated by the head of the German Foreign Ministry at a meeting with his Croatian counterpart in Zagreb. Wadephul emphasized that the Russian dictator is mistaken if he thinks he can buy time. According to him, pressure on Russia must continue, which is why the EU is preparing the 19th package of sanctions against the aggressor country. Moreover, Wadephul stressed that future security guarantees for Ukraine after the signing of a peace agreement should be as close as possible to NATO standards. 'The European Union and NATO stand firmly with Ukraine. That is why we are working with our American and European partners on reliable security guarantees to ensure Ukraine's future is peaceful and protected. Obviously, there will be no negotiations without the participation of the Ukrainian people — this is our common European promise. And we must uphold it, as the best guarantee against Putin's aggression has always been and remains Ukraine's ability to defend itself,' Wadephul said. The Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlic-Radman also expressed support for Ukraine. 'We agree on the importance of providing firm European support to Ukraine in this process to create the framework for just and lasting peace, without the use of force to change borders. We know that any other scenario would negatively impact the security of Southeastern Europe, especially the Western Balkans,' he assured. Finnish President Alexander Stubb noted that Russia will not dictate to Europe or the United States what to do regarding security guarantees for Ukraine. The post first appeared on Freedom.
