The Ministry of Justice explained the new rules for real estate registration: what to do for owners

According to inkorr.com: The Ministry of Justice announced changes to the housing registration system, which raised concerns among apartment owners. Many perceived the department's recommendations as a requirement to urgently re-register their properties.

Ukrainians were told about the new rules for real estate registration and explained who needs to urgently re-register their housing.

Since the beginning of 2013, an updated system of property rights registration has been in effect in Ukraine, creating the State Register of Property Rights (SRPR). This allowed merging the archives of BTI and transferring data into digital format, reducing the likelihood of document loss.

Do I need to re-register old properties?

No, re-registration is not mandatory. All property rights registered before 2013 remain valid. The law automatically recognizes them as valid, so owners do not need to confirm their ownership rights again.

However, there are situations where updating data in the SRPR is necessary, for example, during transactions or to participate in restoration programs. People's deputy Igor Fris noted that since October 13, no new rules have been introduced.

How to add information about housing to the electronic register

Property owners registered through BTI can update their data in the SRPR for free. To do this, they need to have any document confirming their ownership rights, including a certificate or contract.

  • Certificate of ownership
  • Purchase agreement for housing
  • Inheritance certificate

An application can be submitted at the CNAP or through a notary. Registration can also be done remotely using the 'Diia' app. It should be noted that since October 13, no changes have occurred, so re-registration of old properties is not mandatory.

Homeowners received clarifications regarding real estate registration. It was emphasized that current legislation does not require mandatory re-registration of rights registered before 2013, although in some cases adding information to the electronic register may be necessary.
