Ukraine Peace Talks Face Unresolved Core Issues.
Ukraine Peace Negotiations Continue
According to TSN.ua: U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed that peace talks concerning Ukraine are ongoing, while acknowledging that several complex issues remain unresolved. These discussions are set to continue with a planned meeting between Ukraine and Russia in Geneva on February 17th. Rubio stressed the critical importance of reaching a peaceful settlement, stating:
“We will continue to try to achieve this” — Marco Rubio
Key Conference Agenda
The agenda for the upcoming meeting on February 17-18 will address pivotal questions related to the conflict, following the recent Munich Security Conference held on February 14, 2026. The Ukrainian delegation will be comprised of:
- Rustem Umerov
- Kyrylo Budanov
- Andrii Hnatov
The Russian Federation's delegation will be headed by Vladimir Medinsky.
Marco Rubio further remarked:
“I don't think anyone in this room would be against settling this war through negotiations, provided there are fair and lasting conditions” — Marco Rubio
This statement underscores the shared objective among negotiating parties: achieving a stable peace in the region despite the existing challenges. The Geneva talks could represent a significant step toward resolving the conflict and establishing a long-term peace.
These negotiations are taking place against the backdrop of a protracted military conflict between Ukraine and Russia, now in its fourth year, which has caused widespread devastation and a severe humanitarian crisis. A successful outcome in Geneva could be pivotal for the future trajectory of events in the region and for shaping new security strategies in Europe. It remains an open question whether the parties will find common ground and reach the compromise necessary for a durable peace.
