Customs Regulations for Ukrainian Travelers

According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian citizens returning from abroad must adhere to specific customs rules, which include a simplified 'green corridor' for those not carrying prohibited goods. These regulations are part of a broader effort to streamline border procedures. Crucially, when crossing the border, travelers must demonstrate sufficient funds, such as showing at least 300 Polish złoty for trips to Poland. Furthermore, starting in 2026, Ukrainians will need to pay a 20-euro fee for a permit to cross the EU border.

Prohibited and Duty-Free Goods

The new rules restrict the import of certain food items and expensive goods. However, there is a clear list of personal items that do not require declaration. This duty-free allowance includes:

  • Electronics, specifically two mobile phones, one video camera, one photo camera, and two laptops,
  • Sports equipment,
  • Jewelry showing signs of wear,
  • Clothing and footwear for personal use,
  • 500 ml of eau de toilette or 100 ml of perfume,
  • Goods with a total value not exceeding 500 euros and weighing no more than 50 kg,
  • Currency or monetary instruments up to 10,000 euros,
  • Alcoholic beverages (one liter of spirits, two liters of wine, and five liters of beer),
  • Tobacco products (200 cigarettes, or 50 cigars, or 250 g of tobacco),
  • Food products for personal consumption worth up to 200 euros,
  • Medicines, up to five packages of each type per person.

It is vital to note that evading declaration can result in significant fines, ranging from 30% to 100% of the value of the undeclared goods. Therefore, Ukrainians planning trips abroad should familiarize themselves with these updated customs regulations to avoid complications at the border. These changes are particularly relevant given the increased travel following the full-scale invasion.

The new customs rules for Ukrainians returning from abroad form part of the government's initiative to simplify customs procedures and better control the movement of goods across the border.

They are designed to encourage compliance and help travelers avoid penalties, which should foster greater responsibility during border crossings. As these measures take effect, it is essential for Ukrainian citizens to stay informed about the new requirements and their obligations when returning home.
