Russian Paralympians Fully Restored in Rights: IPC Decision.
Paralympic Committee of Russia Again Receives All Rights
According to inkorr.com: The General Assembly of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has restored the powers of the Paralympic Committee of Russia (PCR). This was reported by 'Glavkom'.
On September 27, during the IPC General Assembly in Seoul, South Korea, members of the organization voted to lift the partial suspension of the PCR.
In the first round of voting, 111 delegates voted for the full restoration of the PCR, 55 against, and 11 abstained. In the second round, 91 delegates voted for the repeal of the partial suspension, 77 were against, and 8 abstained.
The partial suspension of the PCR membership occurred during the General Assembly in September 2023. 'We hope that at the upcoming competitions our athletes will be able to compete under the flag and with the anthem of their country. However, this issue still requires further discussion,' noted the head of the PCR, Rozhkov.
It is also worth mentioning that Russian freestyler Anastasia Tataryna has appealed to the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) for permission to compete in the 2026 Olympic Games.
After the voting in Seoul, the PCR regained all its rights, allowing Russian athletes to compete again under the national symbols at international Paralympic tournaments. However, the issue of athletes' admission to international competitions remains open for further discussion.
The restoration of the PCR's rights may become an important step for Russian athletes seeking to return to the international arena. The situation will remain under the control of the relevant organizations and may influence the decisions of other international sports federations regarding the admission of Russians to competitions. Observers are curious how these changes will impact sports events in the coming years.
