Child Abduction in the US: How Parents Paid for Nighttime Abductions.
Alarmingly Case of Abduction
According to The Sun: Two men broke into 13-year-old Kanta Miller's room in the middle of the night, and the girl didn't even suspect her mother had paid thousands for her abduction. Now, at 50, Kanta recounts how she was taken right from her home without consent, under a system presented to parents as assistance, treatment, and a last resort.
“I couldn't believe my own mother was doing this to me,” recalls Kanta.
This case raised serious questions about the methods used to 'help' young people and their families, and how such practices could lead to violations of children's rights.
Systemic Issues
Kanta notes that instances of parents resorting to such extremes are becoming more common, which troubles not only her but many others. Experts believe that a review of approaches to providing assistance to children and their families is necessary to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
This story uncovered deep issues within the assistance system that society should reflect upon. It is essential to find a balance between necessary support and preserving the rights of every child to avoid situations like the one Kanta experienced.
