Demetri Mitchell Used ChatGPT to Sign a Contract

According to The Sun: Former Manchester United academy footballer Demetri Mitchell admitted that he signed his latest contract thanks to ChatGPT.

The 28-year-old player began his career at United, playing as a left-back.

He made his debut for the first team in 2017 and became part of the England U20 youth team. However, he did not play any more for the 'Red Devils' after that.

After finishing his career at the club, he played for 'Hearts', 'Blackpool', 'Hibernian', and 'Exeter City', and now represents 'Leyton Orient', signing a deal with the team this summer.

Mitchell noted that he used artificial intelligence to negotiate his contract with the League One club.

His help from ChatGPT allowed him to secure a two-year deal with Richie Wellens' team and avoid the services of an agent, which enabled him to receive a larger signing bonus.

The player believes that ChatGPT turned out to be better than any agent he worked with before.

“Orient sent me an offer, and then I started using ChatGPT, asking how to negotiate a deal and what to say,” he shared in the podcast ‘From My Left’.

“I was asking: ‘This is what I was getting last season. I’m moving to London, so what is the cost of living? My girlfriend is moving with me with our little one.’ I really thought I could ask for a little more.”

“But I didn’t want to look like I was saying: ‘I should earn this amount’. And since I wasn’t using an agent, I got that amount as a signing bonus,” he added.
“ChatGPT has been my best agent so far. Agents’ fees are 5 percent. ChatGPT costs £15 a month for the premium version. The finances of footballers are very different from what most people imagine,” Mitchell noted.

He continued discussing the financial realities of footballers, explaining that there is a big difference between those earning thousands a week as professional footballers and those in other professions.

“People think that footballers earn huge sums, and we are very fortunate. But in reality, there is a huge difference between those earning two or three thousand a week as footballers and those earning the same amount but as doctors,” he said.

Mitchell also raised the issue of economic difficulties: “When a contract ends, you have expenses of four thousand a month – and you find yourself in a difficult situation. You have to take care of your money and expenses.”

“It’s not as profitable and glamorous as it may seem. You have to think about life after football. This is not a career you can sustain until you’re 65 – it’s a career that lasts the next two years with a two-year deal,” he summed up.
Demetri Mitchell's experience demonstrates the changes in football management and the impact of technology on professional sports. Using artificial intelligence for negotiations can open new opportunities for players, especially those looking to save on agent services. This approach also emphasizes the importance for players to be aware of their finances and future strategies, as a football career, like any other, has its challenges and limitations.
