Faster Consular Services for Ukrainians Living Overseas

According to Novyny.live: Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is moving to cut the time it takes for citizens abroad to get their passports. A major focus is fixing issues with the electronic queuing system and automating document processing. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha noted that passport issuance remains the most sought-after consular service for Ukrainians outside the country.

According to official data, over 61% of all consular services provided to Ukrainian citizens abroad involve passport applications. This high demand reflects the large number of Ukrainians living overseas. The Ministry has already resolved a previous shortage of passport blanks, a move that is expected to speed up the entire process.

“We have removed all obstacles and barriers related to the supply of blank documents,” said Andrii Sybiha.

With more than 8 million Ukrainians currently residing abroad, the Ministry recognizes the urgent need for efficient services.

“We will cut passport processing times as fast as possible, and you will see results quickly,” Sybiha added.

The Minister also highlighted ongoing abuses in the electronic queue system at consulates, which require further measures to resolve.

Adapting Services to Ukrainian Needs

Amid these consular reforms, it is worth noting that a special tribunal for Russia could become operational within the next year, which may also affect the Ministry’s workload. The Foreign Ministry continues to improve conditions for Ukrainians abroad, aiming to safeguard their rights and meet their needs.

These efforts demonstrate Ukraine’s commitment to reducing bureaucratic hurdles for its diaspora. Addressing the electronic queue problems and ensuring a steady supply of document blanks should significantly enhance the quality of consular services. Given the vast number of Ukrainians overseas, these changes represent a crucial step in supporting citizens who require timely passport and document processing.
