The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Woody Allen's visit to Moscow: reason for the scandal named.
According to inkorr.com: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed its condemnation of American director Woody Allen's participation in the Moscow International Film Week, considering his visit an insult to the memory of the victims of Russian aggression. Together with Allen, Emir Kusturica and Mark Dacascos, who have previously shown sympathy for the Kremlin, will also attend the event.
Diplomats emphasized that participation in a festival that unites supporters of Putin is a way of silencing Russia's war crimes against Ukraine. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs believes that culture should not be used to whitewash crimes or propaganda. Diplomats noted that Kusturica and Dacascos have publicly supported Russian politics for almost 8 years. The filmmakers did not respond to the reaction of the Ukrainian authorities regarding their participation in the festival.
Reaction to loud scandals
It is important to remember that all three artists have been involved in loud scandals that went beyond the film industry, particularly due to accusations of child molestation directed at Allen. Ukrainian diplomats emphasized that the cultural sphere often becomes a tool of political struggle, as happened with German activists who protested against the Russian singer and her defender.
