Ukraine Urges Global Action for Crimea's Liberation.
Crimea Resistance Day
According to UATV: On February 26, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the international community to intensify efforts aimed at returning Crimea, which remains under Russian occupation. This date is observed as Crimea Resistance Day, serving as a reminder of the critical importance of supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity. The ongoing occupation is widely condemned as a violation of international law.
Twelve years ago, on February 26, 2011, thousands of Ukrainian citizens gathered for a rally in Simferopol to express their support for the nation's territorial integrity. This demonstration became a powerful symbol of the Ukrainian people's unwavering spirit in their struggle for rights and freedoms.
The Crimean Occupation
The situation changed drastically on February 27, 2014, when Russian soldiers without insignia seized the buildings of the Supreme Council and the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. This act of aggression marked the beginning of a prolonged occupation that continues to this day.
In light of these events, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an appeal to the international community:
"We call upon the international community, all states, and international organizations to strictly adhere to the policy of non-recognition of the temporary occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol." - Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
This appeal underscores the vital role of international support in restoring justice and protecting the rights of Ukrainians to their native lands.
Therefore, February 26 is not only a day of remembrance for past events but also a reminder of the necessity to continue the struggle for the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity.
This date highlights both the historical context and the continued relevance of the Crimean issue in contemporary geopolitics. Sustained international pressure and diplomatic campaigns are essential to keep global attention focused on the situation and to work towards the peninsula's eventual de-occupation.
