An assistant to a judge of one of the courts in Donetsk region, together with other court staff, uncovered a scheme to avoid mobilization. He received payment for resolving court cases on fictitious divorces and establishing custody over children, which allowed parents to avoid military service. The assistant to the judge of the Maryinsk district court is suspected. He faces up to 9 years in prison for the revealed actions.

This scheme also allowed individuals who obtained court decisions to travel abroad without hindrance. Investigators are examining the involvement of other court staff, including management, in these illegal actions.

Avoidance of military service schemes

This case is not isolated. In Ukraine, schemes to avoid military service organized by representatives of the Medical-Social Expertise Commissions (MSEK) and the Invalidity Commissions (VLK) were exposed. Cases have already been brought against three individuals.

The investigation into the scandal involving the Medical-Social Expertise Commissions (MSEK) began with the discovery of over 6 million in cash and valuable papers in the head of the Khmelnytskyi regional MSEK center and her son. The suspects were placed in custody for 60 days with the option of bail. Other facts of receiving undue benefits by representatives of MSEK and VLK were also revealed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already put into effect the NSDC decision to liquidate the MSEK by December 31, 2024. A bill to this effect has also been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada.
