Ukrainian Deminers Neutralize 500-kg FAB-500 Aerial Bomb in Kharkiv Region: How It Ended Up in a Backyard.
Dangerous Discovery
According to Novyny.live: In the Kharkiv region, emergency service sappers from the State Emergency Service (DSNS) safely neutralized a 500-kilogram FAB-500 aerial bomb that had failed to detonate following a Russian strike. The bomb landed on the grounds of a private residence in Derhachi, destroying an outbuilding. Sappers retrieved the hazardous device from a depth of five meters and destroyed it in a controlled detonation.
Complex Operation
The extraction operation is part of the ongoing work by DSNS pyrotechnic units, which over the past 24 hours have removed and neutralized four explosive items. In the last week alone, 397 munitions and explosive objects have been destroyed across the region. These figures underscore the persistent threat posed by explosive remnants in the area.
Since the start of the full-scale war, explosive devices have claimed the lives of 120 people, with another 352 sustaining injuries. This grim statistic highlights the critical need for caution and professional expertise when dealing with dangerous finds.
Hazardous Remnants
On the morning of June 22, a hostile drone struck the village of Orikhanka in the Zolochiv community. The tragedy occurred near one of the liberated villages in the Bohodukhiv district, where mine hazards remain high. The situation in the region is tense, and the work of services tasked with eliminating explosive threats and ensuring public safety remains vital.
This incident underscores the ongoing danger posed by unexploded ordnance, particularly amid the continuing war. DSNS sappers play a crucial role in safeguarding the population by neutralizing hazardous items that could lead to further tragedies. It is essential for the public to remain aware of these risks and follow safety recommendations from experts.
