Drivers in Ukraine Face Significant Changes: New Payments for Road Accidents from January 1.

Changes in Auto Insurance: Compensation and Insurance Sums to Increase from Early 2025
Significant changes await drivers in Ukraine concerning auto insurance. The auto insurance reform law was signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky on June 17. Starting January 1, 2025, compensation amounts in road accidents and the cost of the auto liability policy will increase.
According to the new provisions of the document, insurance sums will be increased in stages to meet European standards. From January 1, 2025, payments will increase to 250,000 UAH per person for property damage (1.25 million UAH per accident) and up to 500,000 UAH per person for health damages (5 million UAH per accident). This increase will be implemented after the end of martial law or when Ukraine becomes a member of the European Union.
Let us remind you that the current insurance limits in Ukraine amount to up to 160,000 UAH per person for property damage (800,000 UAH per accident) and up to 320,000 UAH per person for health damages.
In addition, the rules regarding the European protocol have changed. Now the insurance company can pay the full amount of the insurance for self-reporting an accident if the NBU does not set its limit. Previously, the maximum payment was 80,000 UAH.
