Lightning Strike in Ukraine’s Volyn Region Injures Seven, Including Four Children.
Severe Weather Hits Volyn Region
According to Novyny.live: A powerful storm swept through parts of Ukraine’s Volyn region on June 29, causing injuries and property damage. In the village of Ozero, located in the Kivertsi district, a lightning strike injured seven people, four of whom were minors. All victims were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
The storm also caused damage in the Lutsk and Kovel districts, where buildings and vehicles were affected. This incident highlights the severity of the extreme weather conditions. Notably, a similar storm in late April 2023 claimed three lives in Ukraine, with victims from Zaporizhzhia, Zakarpattia, and Cherkasy regions. Strong winds at that time caused destruction in Dnipropetrovsk, Khmelnytskyi, and Kyiv regions, underscoring the dangerous potential of such natural events.
Safety Guidelines During Storms
When severe weather strikes, following safety precautions is critical. Authorities recommend:
- avoiding travel if possible;
- never taking shelter under trees;
- leaving the shores of bodies of water;
- driving at reduced, safe speeds;
- calling the emergency hotline 102 if necessary.
These measures can help reduce risks to life and health during dangerous meteorological events.
This storm in the Volyn region serves as a stark reminder of the need to prepare for natural disasters and adhere to safety protocols when weather conditions worsen. Given the history of weather-related tragedies in Ukraine, local authorities and emergency services must continue to educate the public about the risks and proper behavior during severe storms. Preparedness and awareness can significantly mitigate the harm caused by such events.
