IAEA announced a ceasefire at the Zaporizhzhia NPP: repair work has begun.
According to ТСН: Ukraine and the Russian Federation have reached an agreement on a temporary ceasefire at the Zaporizhzhia NPP to repair damaged power lines. Currently, restoration work on the power grid is already underway.
Mediation by the IAEA
The ceasefire agreement was reached through the mediation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi expressed gratitude to both parties for their effective cooperation in this process.
Situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP
It is expected that repair work will last several days. Earlier, it was reported that during air attacks by Russian troops, strikes were inflicted on Ukraine's energy facilities, including the substations of two nuclear power plants.
The Zaporizhzhia NPP, which prior to the full-scale invasion provided about 20% of Ukraine's electricity and allowed energy exports to Europe, is now under Russian control. Representatives of the Ukrainian authorities claim that the plant has been transformed into a military base. From its territory, Russian troops launch shelling at Nikopol, located on the opposite bank of the Dnipro.
This ceasefire agreement is an important step towards ensuring safety and stability in a region where energy infrastructure is suffering significant damage. Restoring the operation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP is crucial not only for Ukraine but also for the energy security of Europe. The situation remains tense, and further developments in the NPP area should be monitored by international observers.
