Ukraine's National Cashback Program Revises Rates for Different Product Categories Starting March 1.
Revisions to the 'National Cashback' Program
According to Novyny.live: Starting March 1, the terms for accruing funds under Ukraine's 'National Cashback' program will be updated. A new tiered system will be introduced, where the rebate percentage depends on the product category. Under the new rules, Ukrainians will receive a 15% cashback on goods in categories where imports exceed 35% of the market. For goods with an import share below 35%, the cashback will be 5%.
Funds received from the program can be spent on the following:
- Utility bills
- Postal services
- Products of Ukrainian origin
- Medicines
- Books
- Charitable donations
It was noted that from December 27, Ukrainians will begin receiving money for purchases made in December. Since the program's inception, Ukrainians have received nearly UAH 6.3 billion in total.
Commenting on the changes, Oleksii Sobolev stated: 'These are funds that work directly in the economy: they are directed to paying utility bills, purchasing Ukrainian goods, or supporting the Defense Forces.'
Program Funds and Their Purpose
It is important to note that funds from the program are not taxed and are not considered when calculating eligibility for subsidies. The categories of goods eligible for cashback include non-food items such as:
- Clothing
- Footwear
- Cosmetics
- Household chemicals
- Goods for home, renovation, and pets
- Stationery
Specific products eligible for the 5% cashback rate include:
- Bread
- Meat
- Dairy products (except cheeses)
- Eggs
- Oil
- Vegetables
- Fruit
- Fish
- Canned goods
- Sweets
- Snacks
- Beverages
- Sauces
- Medicines
- Gardening supplies
These adjustments to the cashback terms are designed to bolster the Ukrainian economy and promote the development of domestic production. The program is a key part of the government's strategy to stimulate consumer spending on local goods, which is especially crucial during wartime.
The introduction of the new cashback system is expected to significantly influence Ukrainian consumer habits by incentivizing the purchase of locally produced goods. This, in turn, could boost demand for Ukrainian products, which is of vital importance for supporting domestic manufacturers amid the war and economic challenges.
