Kremenchuk Oil Refinery Under Assault: How the Plant Ensures Energy Security of Ukraine.

The Kremenchuk oil refinery is a strategic facility for the energy security of Ukraine, founded in Soviet times and is the largest refinery in the country. It plays a key role in supplying fuel to the domestic market.

The history of the plant's creation began in 1966 when it was put into operation to meet the growing energy needs of the USSR. A 283-kilometer pipeline was built to transport oil from Ukrainian fields to the plant.

What Makes the Kremenchuk Refinery Unique

The Kremenchuk refinery has a full cycle of oil refining and a designed capacity of 18.6 million tons per day. The plant produces a wide range of products, such as gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, aviation fuel, and lubricants. In peacetime, the enterprise supplied up to 35-40% of the domestic oil product market, making it a key player in Ukraine's fuel sector.

Since the beginning of the invasion by Russia, the Kremenchuk refinery has become a target for Russian missile strikes and was seriously damaged in April 2022, halting its operations. The Russian enemy regularly selects the plant as a strategic target to destabilize Ukraine's energy sector.
