Trump emphasized that such an annexation is necessary for 'international security.'
For his part, Rutte refused to comment on the possible annexation of Greenland by the U.S., but stated that 'it is important to ensure the security of this region,' in connection with the active use of Arctic routes by China and the Russian Federation.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of Greenland Jens-Frederik Nielsen rejected Trump's claims regarding the island, indicating that Greenlanders need to decide their own future as the country moves toward independence from Denmark.
Previously, Trump also spoke about negotiations regarding territories and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
