Millions in Pensions Declared by Ukrainian Lawmakers and Judges: Who Gets the Most.
Retirement Payouts for Ukraine’s Government Officials
According to Novyny.live: In Ukraine, 913 public officials have disclosed their pension income for 2025, a group that includes 55 members of parliament and 858 judges. Former Supreme Court justices and sitting lawmakers are receiving the highest amounts, highlighting stark disparities in pension levels across different retiree categories. This data emerges amid ongoing debates about social equity in the war-affected nation.
Pension Figures for Members of Parliament
Among lawmakers, the maximum annual pension exceeds 2.3 million hryvnias. Several declarations stand out for their size:
- Mykhailo Novikov received 1.46 million hryvnias
- Andriy Kozhemiakin declared 973,000 hryvnias
- Viktor Shkoliarov obtained nearly 3 million hryvnias per year
- Tetiana Zhaivoronok reported a pension of 2.85 million hryvnias annually
- Stepan Domuschi received 2.72 million hryvnias
For judges, the median annual pension stands at 227,100 hryvnias, reflecting the relatively high retirement benefits typical of this profession. By contrast, the average monthly pension across Ukraine is just 7,236 hryvnias. The median annual pension for lawmakers is 229,600 hryvnias.
These figures underscore sharp contrasts within Ukraine’s pension system and raise questions about fairness in the distribution of retirement payments among different social groups.
Generous pensions for public officials challenge the notion of equal social protection for all Ukrainians.
The gap between these privileged categories and the national average pension could fuel public discontent and demands for pension system reform. Discussions on this topic are especially pressing given the economic hardships the country currently faces.
