Tragic death of Billy Vigar
According to The Sun: The owner of Dorking Wanderers club, Mark White, has called for a ban on brick walls near football fields following the tragedy involving Billy Vigar.
Former Arsenal academy player Vigar died at just 21 after sustaining a head injury while playing for Chichester City.
Vigar previously played for ArsenalHe was urgently taken to the hospital, where he was placed in an induced coma. Unfortunately, he could not recover after the surgery.
Call for change
White, 51, hopes this horrific event will be a catalyst for essential changes in stadium safety.
“All clubs must urge the FA to conduct an urgent investigation into conditions around fields. Many of them are dangerous, and players should always be cautious due to the risk of getting into such situations.”
He also noted that some of these structures are hazardous and not subject to shifting, calling for their removal.
A petition launched has already gathered over 2500 signatures, calling for a ban on brick walls around football fields.
“We, football fans, urgently call for the removal of brick walls and other hard structures around football fields...”
The petition emphasizes that the death of Billy Vigar is not an isolated case: many players at various levels have suffered serious injuries due to these dangerous barriers.
“The death of Billy is a tragedy that compels us to act to protect others.”
After receiving a link to the petition, White shared it, urging everyone to sign and spread the word.
Vigar's family expressed their sorrow over his death:
“The response to this tragedy shows how much Billy was valued in the sport.”
Arsenal club also expressed its condolences regarding the death of the young footballer.
This tragedy draws attention to safety issues at stadiums, where matches taking place in a tense atmosphere can create dangerous situations for players. The public and football organizations must work together to reduce risks and improve playing conditions.
