Response to the Escalation

In response to the situation, Romania dispatched two F-16 fighters late Saturday to monitor the situation. The planes detected the drone in their airspace and tracked it until it disappeared from radar near the village of Chilia Veche.

NATO quickly responded to the alert, confirming its readiness to defend 'every inch' of allied territory earlier this week.

Almost simultaneously, following the incursion of Kremlin drones into Polish airspace which led to their destruction by Warsaw, NATO Article 4 was activated — a step towards war.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported that during the attack on western Ukraine, 19 Russian drones crossed the border, adding that his country is 'closest to conflict since World War II'.

This occurred just days after Poland was forced to destroy Russian drones in its airspace

This is the first direct confrontation between NATO and Russia since the start of the war, although planes have repeatedly taken to the air without entering combat.

Russian officials deny that the drones belonged to them, even claiming that the launches occurred from Kyiv.

Actions of Poland and Potential Sanctions

Poland confirmed the deployment of helicopters and aircraft to combat Russian drones near the border. The military of the country reported on social media that they are at a 'highest level of readiness' alongside allied aircraft.

Tusk also noted that the alert was lifted, but warned: “We must remain vigilant.”

Commenting on the escalation of relations between Russia and NATO, Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that this is an “obvious escalation of war by Russia.”

“Don't wait until dozens of Shahed [drones] and ballistic missiles demand decisions,” Zelensky urged NATO.

Responding to the continued aggression from Russia, U.S. President Donald Trump promised to impose 'significant sanctions against Russia'.

“I am ready to act when you are ready. Just say when?”

Trump also urged NATO to impose sanctions on China, emphasizing that Xi Jinping finances Putin's war machine.

The situation in Eastern Europe remains tense due to Russia's actions, which continue to raise concerns among neighboring countries. In particular, the escalation of military actions indicates potential threats to security in the region, and the international community is monitoring developments in the conflict zone. NATO countries are prepared for operational measures to prevent further escalation of the crisis.
