The Great Pyramid at Giza and Hemienu

According to ТСН: Archaeologists are increasingly concluding that behind the creation of the Great Pyramid at Giza stood not only the will of the pharaoh but also a notable figure. We are talking about the court official Hemienu, who played an important role in organizing this grand construction.

The Great Pyramid at Giza is the largest of all Egyptian pyramids and one of the most famous architectural structures in the world. It was built during the reign of Pharaoh Khufu, however, researchers believe that the monarch did not personally engage in the design. The answer to who exactly managed the construction is partially illuminated by archaeology.

Research around the pyramid has led to the discovery of a significant mastaba—a rectangular tomb with sloping walls. It stands out from other burials due to its size and the status of the person to whom it belonged. Inside, a statue of a nobleman named Hemienu was found, and this discovery became an important part of a long-standing mystery.

Inscriptions in the tomb confirm that Hemienu was the vizier of Egypt, meaning the second person in the state after the pharaoh. He had a royal seal, performed administrative functions, and belonged to the royal family, as he was Khufu's nephew. One of the titles, in which Hemienu is called “overseer of all the king's building projects,” particularly drew historians' attention.

Since the Great Pyramid was the main project of Khufu's reign, specialists believe that Hemienu was responsible for its construction. Whether he was the author of the architectural design or rather fulfilled the role of construction manager remains unknown. However, most researchers agree: without his participation, the largest pyramid in the world would not have been built in the form we see it today.

The discovery of new artifacts, such as the mastaba of Hemienu, allows for a better understanding of the organization and scale of the construction of Egyptian pyramids. This not only confirms the importance of individual personalities in ancient Egypt but also emphasizes their role in the realization of grand architectural designs. Research in this field continues and may bring new sensational discoveries in the future.
