Mariupol Port Destroyed by Azov and SBU Forces, Cutting Off Russia’s Sea Access.
Operation in Mariupol
According to UATV: On June 10, 2023, fighters from the 1st Corps of Ukraine’s National Guard ‘Azov’ carried out a joint mission alongside the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As a result of this operation, Russian occupying forces lost their access to the port of Mariupol.
Details of the Operation
The operation involved strikes on critical port infrastructure. The attack damaged the following:
- electrical substations
- radar equipment
- repair facilities
- control tower
- fuel storage tanks
Additionally, the dry cargo ship Lady Augusta, part of Russia’s shadow fleet, was hit during the strikes.
As a result of Ukrainian forces’ actions, the Mariupol port was left completely without power, severely complicating Russian military logistics in the Pryazovia region. This operation marked a significant step in the struggle for control over strategic assets in the area.
The elimination of Russian control over the Mariupol port underscores the strategic importance of this facility for both sides in the conflict. The port plays a key role in resource supply and logistics, and its loss could substantially hinder Russian forces’ capabilities in the region. Such actions reflect the increased activity of Ukrainian forces in their effort to reclaim control over vital territories and infrastructure.
