Budanov on Compromise with Russia: It's When Both Sides Are Upset.
According to ТСН: The head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kyrilo Budanov is firmly against giving up Ukrainian territories in exchange for peace.
In an interview, he shared his understanding of a "just compromise" in the war with Russia.
Settlement of Territorial Issues
When asked about public sentiments, particularly regarding the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donetsk, Budanov emphasized that resolving territorial issues should not mean capitulation or loss of part of Ukraine's territories.
"Why do you think that when I talk about settling territorial issues, it means giving something to someone? I am fundamentally against giving anything to anyone," said the head of the GUR.
Definition of Compromise
Budanov also voiced his concept of a compromise that could serve as a basis for ending the war. He believes that a true agreement is a situation where neither side feels complete satisfaction.
"Remember once again what I told you: a compromise is not when one is satisfied and the other is upset. It’s when both are upset. That’s a compromise," he summarized.
Return to the Borders of 1991
Kyrilo Budanov previously noted that Ukraine should return to the borders of 1991, as other options would not ensure lasting peace.
Budanov's statements underscore the importance of resilience and uncompromising stance of Ukraine in the context of the war with Russia. The guidelines on compromise and territorial integrity are relevant for understanding Ukraine's position on the international stage. True peace can only be achieved on the basis of equal and honest dialogue that leaves all territories indisputably with Ukraine.
