Why Talks Are Essential to End the War

According to Espreso.tv: According to Oleh Bereziuk, director of the Institute of Global Politics, Ukraine has no choice but to pursue negotiations, even though Moscow is currently unwilling to engage. He stressed that every war ultimately concludes with a peace agreement.

“When we talk about the ongoing war and the need to sit down at the negotiating table—yes, we must do so, because all wars end in peace,” Bereziuk stated.

At the same time, he made clear that Russia lacks the capability to defeat Ukraine militarily.

“Russia cannot win the war against Ukraine,” he said, pointing to Ukraine’s available resources and the urgent need to revise its defensive strategy.

Ukraine’s Strategic Shift

Bereziuk noted that Ukraine currently relies on a defensive posture: “Today, Ukraine’s strategy is a defensive one.” However, he argued that Kyiv should seize the initiative and go on the offensive.

  • “I believe we need to take the initiative and transition to an offensive,” he concluded.

These remarks come shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signaled his readiness for direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin—a notable shift in tone.

Bereziuk’s comments highlight the critical role of diplomacy in the ongoing conflict and the pressing need for Ukraine to adjust its military approach. The mention of Zelenskyy’s openness to direct negotiations suggests a potential change in how Ukraine seeks to resolve the war, possibly aiming to strengthen its standing internationally and explore new avenues toward a peaceful settlement.
