According to ТСН: In Ukraine, at the beginning of December, a decrease in wholesale prices for greenhouse cucumbers has been recorded, which is an unusual trend for this time of year.

According to analysts from the EastFruit project, greenhouse cucumbers are currently sold for 90–120 UAH/kg ($2.13–2.84/kg), which is on average 10% lower than a week ago. Suppliers explain this decrease as a forced measure due to weak demand, which is significantly lower this year compared to the usual December.

Prices are decreasing because wholesalers and retail chains are unwilling to purchase large volumes of product. Retailers report low sales speeds, leading to the accumulation of large stocks in warehouses. Due to delays in sales, some products are gradually losing quality.

Despite this, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine remain about 13% more expensive than at the same time last year.

Most market participants consider the current situation temporary and expect that prices may begin to rise again next week.

We remind you that in Ukraine in December — there is an oversupply of an important product, yet prices for it are still rising.

Thus, the greenhouse cucumber market in Ukraine is going through a difficult financial period, but experts do not rule out the possibility of a change in trends. Currently, there is a contradiction in price expectations, considering both large volumes of product and weak demand among consumers. This creates an interesting situation that may impact the market in the near future.
