The completion of the delayed construction is scheduled for 2028.
The station will be located next to the A4018 Wyck Beck Road, on the boundary of Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
The South Gloucestershire Council took several years to grant permission due to concerns about flooding.
However, on Wednesday, members of the council's strategic objects committee unanimously supported the project.
The station with a single platform will connect Henbury with Bristol Temple Meads and Filton Abbey Wood, with trains running every hour.
The new station will be equipped with barrier-free access, bike parking, and parking for 31 cars.
21 trees are also planned to be planted along the approach to the station.
Conservative councillor Mark Weston, representing Henbury and Brent, told the BBC: “Today is a good day, but also a frustrating one for us. The money for this project was allocated about a decade ago, and there have been numerous delays since then. This is an absolutely essential part of key infrastructure.”
The station is expected to become an important and sustainable transport solution for residents of new housing areas, including the new Cribbs Patchway district.
Construction will be overseen by Network Rail in partnership with the West of England Combined Authority.
Henbury station is part of the larger MetroWest Phase Two project, which includes the construction of other stations such as North Filton, Shirehall, and Ashley Down.
This came after a significant railway station, which is visited by about 10,000 people daily, finally reopened.

This work caused inconvenience for 300,000 travelers who use the station each month.
However, three of the six platforms at the station finally reopened this week.
The opening of the new station in Henbury promises to significantly ease access to public transportation in the region, which, in turn, could stimulate the development of new infrastructure projects and improve the quality of life for residents. With the introduction of new stations and connections between cities, conditions for daily commuting to work, education, and leisure activities improve.
